When an OP_NOPx is encountered in a block, that block would likely not be valid. Make sure that the chain with this block is retained and, once some number of blocks N has been achieved on that chain beyond the currently accepted PoW, then start accepting that chain as a soft fork. Signature checking should be skipped for the newly encountered OP_NOPx.
